Fifty Lost Years

Many of us rescuers were in elementary school when the first study was done on a contraceptive drug for cats in Oslo, Norway.

It was 1974.

The 244 cats were treated safely and effectively, to prevent pregnancy.

The study was published in 1977.

A second study showing the same results in other cats was also published in the veterinary literature in 1977.

So, the veterinary field had the information fifty years ago and has failed to follow up on its own findings.

I am more than furious about the 50 years of stray cats that didn't have to be born, only to suffer and perish in miserable conditions!!

And furious for the many rescuers, who have lost so many hours of sleep and gone into debt, as they routinely take on life and death issues and attempt to alleviate the suffering of so many cats and kittens that didn't have to be born, often into conditions of dire need.
